Need a Summer Vacation Lifesaver? There’s an App for that!

So our summer vacations are officially over, and unfortunately we come home to nasty summer temperatures!  Not only did we visit the beautiful San Diego oceans, my daughter and I made the trek across the country to visit my family in North Carolina.  I was a bit of a stressed mom, in fact, you could say borderline anxiety ridden, traveling on a plane for five hours (just me, no husband help) and then going to a house with a huge dog, three sets of stairs, hardwood floors, and no toddler-proofing to speak of.  I knew that my work was going to be cut out for me supervising my rambunctious 15-month-old.

When we got there however, everything seemed to be going great, the plane ride turned out to be pretty painless, the dog didn’t mind getting his tail pulled, the stairs were gated and my daughter was so enthralled by all the new people she didn’t seem to notice all of the knick-knacks she could potentially destroy.  It wasn’t until bedtime that I realized one big problem, her room was upstairs and mine was two floors away down in the basement.  Now you might thing I’m a little over-protective and it’s not a big deal, but as a first time mom, there hasn’t been a night of my daughter’s life that I haven’t been able to hear her sleeping.  I went into full blown panic.  With the time difference we were going to bed at 11:00pm, way too late to run to Target and buy a monitor.  My father tried to convince me that I’d wake up naturally, but he just doesn’t know my sleep habits.  When in a dark room, I can literally sleep for fourteen hours and sleep through a freight train coming in my room.  With no monitor, my kid could cry for hours and I would be in dreamland.

So what does one do when they are panicked?  They text their girlfriends to make sure that they’re not actually nuts; needing that validation.  So I texted Nora, and thank goodness I did because she solved my problem.  Unbeknownst to me there is an app, Evoz, on your phone, that when used in conjunction with another phone, tablet, etc. you can have a perfect baby monitor.  It allows you to hear everything if you want to, or if you don’t, you can turn the sound off and just have it text, call or email you if your baby is crying.  Don’t want to know if they’ve only been crying for a minute?  You can even set the timer to only notify you after 3, 5, or 7 minutes.  I couldn’t have been more relieved!  I went to sleep knowing that I wouldn’t sleep through my daughter’s breakfast.  Knowing that she was safe and sound allowed me to get some much needed rest and know that we were going to enjoy the rest of our vacation.  So, if you’re in a pinch and need a monitor, whether it be on vacation or at home, check out the Evoz app, it works great and I didn’t even mention, it’s FREE for the first two weeks!
