It’s Monday, Are You Ready for a Challenge?

With the weather heating up here in the Phoenix area, most of us are hightailing indoors, but this week we are challenging your to abandon your a/c and get outside with your family.  Don’t worry, we’re not asking you to play soccer at 2:00 in the afternoon on black asphalt.  This week’s Ties & Tutus challenge is to take a family walk every night after dinner.  I know my family and I love to pull out the wagon and dog leash, get some fresh air and meet the neighbors at sunset.  The heat subsides and it’s a great time to spend some quality time with the family, so get out there!

Spring Training

It is officially my favorite month of the year to be a Phoenician — March.  Thousands of people travel from all over the country and world to visit Phoenix this time of year, but we are spoiled rotten and get to enjoy the beauties of the city each and every day.  One of the most popular things going on in the Valley in March is SPRING TRAINING.  I like baseball and all, but I’m by no means a die-hard fan.  That being said, I {love} me some Spring Training.  What’s better than sunshine, baseball, beer, family and friends?  There are games all over the city so break out the sunscreen and enjoy a game…or two!  Click here for more information.

Origami Owl, Custom Jewelry

Have you heard about this latest craze?  If not, let me be the one to introduce you to Origami Owl, Custom Jewelry.  Yes.  CUSTOM.  I’ve recently become part of this amazing company that allows you, the customer, to design personal lockets that tell your story.  I fell in love with the idea immediately, I’m a self-confessed accessory junkie.  Here is an image that describes how simple the process really is:

I’m currently waiting on shipment of my first locket and I can’t.wait.for.it.to.get.here.  I’m stalking the UPS man like nobody’s business.  I created a family piece out of a gold locket, long gold chain, our initials and our birthstones.  Oh, and let’s not forget the rhinestone dog bone, that represents our puppy.  He’s definitely part of our family.  It’s something simple that I can wear everyday.  At first I was stressed wondering if I should wait until our family was complete because I didn’t want to have to order another necklace a year or two down the road.  Well, apparently the design team was one step ahead of me because these little suckers open up so you can exchange or add charms.  Holler!

MOMS Club

Are you looking to get out and meet other moms in your area?  If so, I know the feeling.  Shortly before the arrival of my son, my husband and I decided I would start my new job as a stay-at-home-mom.  It was the job of my dreams and I was ecstatic.  However, reality quickly set in.  I don’t know about you, but I can’t just stay at home all day or the walls start creeping in and I go stir crazy.  On top of that, I knew that our decision to have my stay at home would also mean we would be on a much tighter budget, so no, I would not be out shopping the day away or lunching with friends at the country club (wait, I’ve never lunched at the country club, dreaming again…).  Most, if not all of my friends work, so I knew I needed to get out there and meet some new stay-at-home-moms, but YIKES, that’s scary.

I sat down at the computer one night and was determined to find inexpensive activities in the area where I could meet other moms and get.out.of.the.house.  Lo and behold I found this wonderful organization, the MOMS Club.  It is an international club, separated into chapters according to neighborhoods.  Could this really be true?  Was this the answer to all of my prayers?  Yes, yes it was.  Here are a few of the benefits of joining your local MOMS Club:

The MOMS Clubsm offers the following, free of charge to its registered chapters on an on-going basis:

* We organize and conduct support groups for all at-home mothers;

* We offer educational services, classes, on-line programs, seminars and workshops for support groups for at-home mothers, and we develop formats for monthly meetings, casual get-togethers, outings, family parties, playgroups, babysitting co-ops, activity groups and service projects for at-home mothers and their children;

* We offer extensive on-going management consulting services for support groups for at-home mothers, and we develop formats for monthly meetings, casual get-togethers, outings, family parties, playgroups, babysitting co-ops, activity groups and service projects for mothers and their children.
I have met some amazing women through this group.  We get together for weekly playdates, meet-ups, book clubs, organize fundraisers, family events, mom’s night out, set up babysitting co-ops and more than anything bond with other moms.  It’s wonderful to know such amazing women within my community.  Click here to search for your local chapter!
