Flowers are stupid…Wait, you didn’t buy me flowers?

For the record I know that this post will expose some of my crazy… but, let’s be honest, we all have some crazy in us…

I have told my husband time and time again that I think flowers are such a waste of money.  Sure, they’re beautiful and smell nice, but a week later the water stinks and they start to die.  In addition I generally have to trash half the bouquet off the bat because they are deadly to my cat.  So after a weeks time I typically have a half full, stinky vase left with semi-dead flowers.

But here’s the thing, I don’t mean it.  I don’t think they’re stupid – I think they’re lovely!  And the feeling I get when they realize that, “yes, that delivery man is walking towards me!” is worth the $60+ price tag for something that will be rendered completely useless in a week!

So today when my Valentine did not consist of beautiful long stem roses I was a bit forlorn.  I told my husband about all of the beautiful bouquets I saw pictures of on Facebook with that *hint* *hint* tone in my voice.  To which he replies, “but you hate flowers, you think they’re a waste of money!”  What can I say, he’s right, I do think they’re a waste of money and I completely understand why, logically, he didn’t send me flowers.  But do I still want them?  You bet I do.

How Are You Celebrating Valentine’s Day?

As those of you with children know, it’s not easy to get out and have a romantic evening with your husband or wife anymore.  What are you all doing to celebrate?  Need a few ideas for that gotta-stay-home-because-we-have-no-sitter-dilema?  We’re here to help.

For ideas as a family:

  • How about Chinese take-out and a FREE Redbox Movie rental?  Today only, enter the promo code HEART at a Redbox kiosk for a free, one-night DVD rental.
  • Drag out the blankets and pillows and create a bed on the living room floor to snuggle and watch your favorite show – or in our house – hours of DVR’d shows.
  • Have an outdoor fire pit?  Make s’mores!  Who can resist a s’more, really?
  • Game night – Twister, Life, and Monopoly, oh my!
  • Bake some yummy Valentine’s treats together.

After the kids go to bed, why not:

  • Break out the champagne glasses, pour a little bubbly and write love notes to one another.
  • Save a special dessert for you and your love – chocolate fondue is one of my favorites!
  • Play the “newlywed game” – click here for a free printable.

Have some more fun ideas?  We’d love to hear from you.  Until then, HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!

Has Valentine’s Day snuck up on you?

In need of some last minute valentines?  Don’t forget we’ve got free printable bookmarks and cards right here!

My cousin emailed me saying her daughter’s Kindergarten class was doing a project and wanted to receive mail from around the world.  They live in Illinois and I’m in Arizona – not quite the other side of the world, but hey, I’m a sucker for school projects.  I knew I wanted to send a card with some information about Phoenix and such, but I wanted the package to be extra special for my wonderful first-cousin-once-removed.  (I think that’s right, but if not, you know what I’m getting at.) The teacher in me decided to whip up Valentine’s Day bookmarks to send her way.  And lucky you, I’m sharing them with the world.  Here they are, hope you enjoy!

While I was at it, I decided to create a few Valentine’s Day cards, all totally FREE and PRINTABLE.  Here you go:

Valentine’s Day Printable Subway Art

If you’ve spent any time on Pinterest lately, you’ve probably noticed subway art is all the rage (Did I really just use that term? Yes. Yes I did.).  That being said, I decided to create a Valentine’s Day piece.  Print this puppy off, frame it in an 8×10 and you have an instant V-Day decoration.  I love this idea because it’s a simple, yet colorful way to change up the decor based on a season or holiday.
